Valium Addiction Treatment Program

Valium Detox Houston, TX

An image of a box of Valium Diazepman (50 count)

Valium or Diazepam is a benzodiazepine (benzo) that is prescribed to treat individuals who have problems with muscle spasms, anxiety issues, panic attacks, seizures and sometimes alcohol withdrawal symptoms.   This medication works by making chemical changes to the brain and central nervous system that result in allowing people to feel a calming effect.  Because of this calming effect it is also common for people to receive Valium prior to a surgery to ease anxiety and help with sedation.   Drug addicts often like to use this prescription pill to help curb the side effects when coming down off other drugs like cocaine or methamphetamine.  They also like using this medication for the euphoric effects when taken in combination with opiates like Vicodin, Hydrocodone, Oxycontin and Percocet. While using this medication in combination with others is highly dangerous and increases the risks of respiratory distress, overdosing, coma’s and death.   Valium, like all benzos, if abused is highly addictive and your risk of valium addiction & dependence significantly increases with misuse.

Other Common or Street Names:  V’s, Yellow V’s, Blue V’s, Downers, Benzos, Howards, Tranks

How people commonly use or ingest Valium:

Most commonly, users will swallow by mouth although some may prefer to chew the pill first then swallow or sublingually let the pill dissolve under the tongue in hopes of a faster onset.  Unlike opiates, users will not normally snort or inject Valium into their system because users don’t get the big rush they get with opiates.  People can build higher tolerances for Valium in fairly short periods of time.

How to tell someone is using Valium:

  • Sedation, drowsiness, tired
  • Impaired walking and motor function
  • Buzzed and relaxed
  • Worry free, happy, giggly
  • Possible confusion
  • Blurry or double vision
  • Vivid dreams

Signs of Valium Addiction:

  • Saying they have increased anxiety while currently on medication
  • Trying to obtain refills more often
  • Trying to get higher doses prescribed to them
  • Finding empty ziploc bags, this is normally how pills come from street dealers
  • Pill Bottles from multiple doctors
  • Finding pill bottles with other people’s names on it
  • Missing labels on pill bottles
  • Blank Prescription pads for forging prescriptions
  • Missing family events, isolating themselves
  • Changes in hobbies

Withdrawal Symptoms of Valium:

Detoxing from Valium and other Benzodiazepines needs to be done in a medically supervised environment and at no time should be attempted alone or “cold turkey”.  There are significant risk factors from detoxing from benzos including seizures, comas and other fatal outcomes.  Detox medications will need to be prescribed and vitals closely monitored to help with symptom reduction while the body begins functioning without the benzo in the system.

  • Unstable vitals
  • Muscle pain and weakness
  • Intestinal cramping
  • Headaches
  • Increased anxiety
  • Increased risk of seizures
  • Tremors
  • Vomiting
  • Sweating
  • Insomnia or restlessness
  • Possibility of numbness

This Recovery Center is by far the best Recovery place I have ever been, they you about the illness of alcoholism and the solution of the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous in the basic text of Alcoholics Anonymous. As long as your willing, open minded, and honest. You can get what they have of a spiritual awakening/experience. Everyone that works there has been through the house and knows the struggles you are going through and you will be able to relate with you. There is no judgement.

This place is probably the most important place I've ever had the fortune to visit. When I showed up here a year ago, I was bitter, selfish and a shadow of who I thought I was. If you or a loved one needs or wants to make a change, I can't recommend it more. The system they have here and the groups can genuinely help, even if you aren't fully willing, the messages will stick and make a new start possible.

I checked in Bay Area Recovery in May 2023, I went into House 3 for inpatient help with alcohol and drug addiction. What I found at Bay Area is a warm and loving group of people that really care about the clients. It's a family I never knew I had. These people rolled out the red carpet for me and made me feel at home. They showed me how to get sober with the 12-steps of AA and gave me the necessary tools to stay sober, taught me a new way of life. I am eternally grateful to Bay Area Recovery and the staff. If anyone needs help this is the place to be. Everyone at Bay Area has been through this program and completely understands. Thanks for everything.Kyle Johnson
